INNOVATION SUMMIT | DANISH INSTITUTE ATHENS | GREECE | 22 SEPTEMBER 2017

A knowledge exchange event dedicated to design, innovation and entrepreneurship in the humanitarian sector. The Innovation Meeting featured  key note presentations from Nordic, Greek and International shareholders as well as panel discussions and round table expert meetings aimed at creating networks and hubs of innovation that span across Europe and the world. 

SPEAKERS

LEFTERIS PAPAGIANNAKIS Vice Mayor on Migrant & Refugee and affairs | City of Athens

Lefteris Papagiannakis was born in France in 1971. He completed his primary and secondary education in Greece. He returned to France to study public law in the University of Lille II, followed by a DEA in European Community Law and International Economic Law. After the completion of his studies, he worked in the European Parliament as a parliamentary assistant. Since then he also worked on the education of the Muslim minority in Greece (in Thrace), as a legal counselor for the political party Ecologists Green and the Special Secretariat on environmental inspection. He was elected in the municipal council of Athens in 9/2014 and named vice mayor on migrant and refugee affairs in 3/2016

PETROS KOKKALIS | Vice Mayor on European Affairs | Municipality of Piraeus

Co-founder and impact investor of social enterprises  Organization Earth, an environmental NGO, and Aephoria, a sustainable development startup incubator, Petros is a firm believer of the transformation of local communities through mass resource mobilization. He currently serves as Vice President of the Kokkalis Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is the promotion of a peaceful, democratic and prosperous Southeastern Europe. He also serves as the President of AIT, a non-profit technology academic and research institution, and he is president of Athens Tech, a private technology, innovation and entrepreneurship college.  He was the Vice-President and shareholder of Intracom Holdings, one of the largest multinational technology groups in South-Eastern Europe.

SERGIO MONTERO BRAVO | Lecturer in Interior Architecture | Konstfack University 

Sergio is a Lecturer in Interior Architecture at Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design-Interior Architecture & Furniture Design Program. His private practice involves pedagogy, art, architecture and design, with an interest towards critically exploring an artistically driven co-creative and collaborative practice. His aim is to contribute with a social commitment in projects, using pedagogy, art, architecture and design as tools for social change.

VASILIKI GAVALA | Site Planning | UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency

 

Viki Gavala, is an architect, and part of the UNHCR GREECE Site Planning Team. UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency has provided technical interventions in some 45 accommodation sites dispersed across Greece, and Viki presented the innovative design projects undertaken by the agency, such as the design and construction of a mobile kitchen container unit that could be easily transported from site to site and facilitate the needs of the population in need.

NINA HAVERMANS | Multidisciplinary Designer | Biomimicry Norway

Nina is a Dutch interdisciplinary designer specialized in design solutions for our built environment, focussing on social challenges and sustainability. She graduated from the Design Academy in Eindhoven, followed by a stream of successful positions as senior product designer, consultant and lecturer in Holland and Norway. Nina co‐founded Biomimicry Norway, a non-profit organisation to inspire and activate the application of biomimicry and circular economy principles. She is currently working for Comte Bureau in Norway in a team of sociologists, architects and designers, creating holistic and user-oriented solutions for private and public sector. Following volunteering with LATRA in Lesvos, during 2016 she became a global LATRA Ambassador.

JONAS AHNME | Senior Lecturer in Industrial Design | Konstfack University

Jonas is head of the bachelor education in Industrial Design. His private practice spans from products for children, household appliances and apps, to heavy industrial equipment. He teach at both master and bachelor level. With an interest in pedagogy, and in finding collaborative projects in various contexts, an aim is to encourage explorative design processes among the students. As the Konstfack coordinator of the MEDes network (Master of European Design), he also has an interest in international collaborations.

ANTON BOMAN | Co-founder | TOPP

Anton Boman is one of the co-founders of Topp. Strategically driven designer with more then 10 years of professional experience. Extensive knowledge in digital product and concept development, user experience design, design direction and visual design strategies. Worked within a range of future looking industries; mobile platforms, wearables, IoT, mobile applications and automotive experiences. Former student at Hyper Island, school of digital creatives and Kaospilot, a hybrid business and design school.

NICOLE IOANNIDI | Corporate Affairs | Vodafone  -Greece

 

Nicole is the head of Corporate Affairs for Vodafone Greece. Nicole joined Vodafone Greece in 2015, having previously worked as a communications consultant for Burson-Marsteller in Athens and Edelman in New York. She is a member of the CSR Committee at the Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce and the Women's Committee at the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises.

HERAKLES PAPATHEODOROU | Digital Development | Onassis Foundation

 

Herakles Papatheodorou is part of the Digital Development team at the Onassis Foundation and will present the innovative event #HacktheCamp, a creative marathon for the development of solutions to address refugee needs organized by the U.S. EMBASSY ATHENSImpact Hub Athens, and the Onassis Cultural Center in collaboration with two international organizations with extensive experience in organizing humanitarian hackathons: Creative Associates International from the US,  and International Alert from Great Britain.

MATILDA CHATZIPANAGIOTOU | Dean of Students | Deree - The American College of Greece

Matilda Chatzipanagiotou is currently serving as the Dean of Students at Deree – The American College of Greece, and since 2014 as part-time faculty member in the School of Business, teaching “Business Legal Issues”. She is a constitutional and human rights lawyer and researcher with extensive experience in interdisciplinary projects. Matilda was a research fellow and Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft scholar at the Humboldt University Graduiertenkolleg “Multilevel Constitutionalism: European Experiences and Global Perspectives” in Berlin (2009-2012) and focused her research on the law of human dignity. She received her LL.M. in 2009 from New York University, on Fulbright and Onassis scholarship. She graduated from Athens Law School (Papadakis Bequest scholar) in 2008. She is currently heading the EU-funded Countering Islamophobia Kit research project, led by the University of Leeds, in Greece and at Alba-ACG.

ARIS PAPADOPOULOS | Founder & Director of Innovation | L A T R A

Aris Papadopoulos is a Humanitarian Entrepreneur & Founder of award-winning LATRA, the world’s first incubator situated inside a refugee camp in his native island of Lesbos.  LATRA specializes in circular design, environmental engineering & digital applications for the humanitarian sector, and its goal is to empower beneficiaries with 21st Century skills, in order to become directors of their lives and combat the adversities that they, and their communities face.  LATRA was the winner of the Global Be.Creative Challenge 2017, Shortlisted for the prestigious ARUP Global REsearch Challenge Award, as well as the Network for Innovation and Creativeity Europe Award. LATRA has also been awarded a Start-Up Grand and two Internationalisation Programs from Stimuleringsfonds Creative Industries in the Netherlands, as well as a Culture & Art Program by the Nordic Council of Ministers. 

THEO ANAGNOSTOPOULOS | Founder  | Sci - Co

 

Theo is a geneticist, a social entrepreneur and a science communicator. He is the Founder and General Manager of SciCo, an international organisation aiming to make science and technology simple and understandable to the public and to various stakeholder groups. In 2011 he was nominated by UNESCO Greece for the Kalinga Science Popularisator Prize and in 2012 he trained with Al Gore to become one of Climate Reality Project Ambassadors. Since 2013 he is the President of the Ίδρυμα Ωνάση / Onassis Foundation Scholar's Association. In November 2016 and based on his work for SciCo, he won theAshoka Impact Program Award while in February 2017 he won the BritishCouncil Alumni UK social Impact Award.

EFI LATSOUDI | Co - Founder  | Lesvos Solidarity - PIKPA

 

Efi is one of the founding members of Lesvos Solidarity - Pikpa. In 2012, she started participating in solidarity networks for refugees through the Lesvos Solidarity network of NGOs and citizens "Village of all together" - Lesvos. Lesvos Solidarity-Pikpa camp was the first open camp in Lesvos, started in 2012. In 2016, she participated in the creation of the NGO "Lesvos Solidarity", operating Pikpa camp and creating the Mosaik Support Center in Mytilini. Since 2014, Efi also works at the NGO Refugee Support Aegean (RSA), offering social support and conducting monitoring. Efi was named as one of two winners of the 2016 Nansen Refugee Award for her tireless work helping refugees on the Greek island of Lesvos.
